If you’re a disc golf fanatic, then the Tri-Cities and surrounding area will easily feed your passion. It’s home to and within a short drive of many of the nation’s top-rated disc golf courses. The ratings below are courtesy of the UDisc app, based on a 5-point scale.
Winged Deer Park, Johnson City (18 holes, 4.5 rating) – This moderately difficult course is considered one of the best in the region. It features long fairways, tight woods, and elevation changes. Has several ace runs.
ETSU Course, Johnson City (9 holes, 3.5 rating) – At East Tennessee State University. Several ace runs. Mostly an open, hilly terrain. Short course, great option to practice.
Milligan University Course, Johnson City (9 holes, 3.7 rating) – At Milligan University, located on campus.
Harmon Hills, Limestone (27 holes, 4.8 rating) – This amazing private course requires a reservation along with a $100/year membership fee — or you can try it out for $10 a round. Not only is it the highest-rated course in the area, but it’s also considered one of the best in the country. This course is situated on an old farmstead that features beautiful pastoral views and manicured fairways. Each of the 4 9-hole options offer a diverse challenge via a variety of terrain, including hills, valleys and woods.
Warriors Path State Park, Colonial Heights (36 holes, 4.3 rating) – Good mix of open and wooded holes with a mild to moderate elevation change on each hole. Water hazard on #15. The back 9 are more difficult.
Borden Park, Kingsport (18 holes, 3.8 rating) – Mostly flat, wooded 18-hole course. Good for beginners and ace runs. But be warned: the course has a bad tendency to remain very swampy after a rain, so wait for several dry days before visiting.
Sugar Hollow, Bristol, VA (18 holes, 4.7 rating) – This highly rated course is, like Harmon Hills, considered one of the nation’s best. Features beautiful scenery on a well-maintained course, but it definitely not a course for beginners.
There are also several local disc golf clubs in the area, including the Tri-Cities Disc Golf Club and the Johnson City Disc Golf Club. These clubs organize events and tournaments throughout the year, and they’re a great way to meet other disc golf enthusiasts in the area.
