Why Johnson City? Its Beauty & Strong Economy
For today’s post, let’s look at Johnson City vs. other metro areas in the U.S.
What Johnson City has going for it that easily steals people away from other metro areas is the fact that we have gorgeous mountains surrounding us. As a result, these mountains contribute to a slightly better climate than other nearby areas. The humidity is just a little less here and we have cooler evenings.
Here’s another bonus a lot of people like: because we’re somewhat buffered by the mountains, eastern Tennessee doesn’t have the tornado risk like they have in middle Tennessee or other parts of the south. Neither does it have the oppressive heat like they have in west Tennessee.
A Great Economy
What else makes Johnson City a great destination? One word: jobs.
The Tri-Cities area doesn’t have a huge job force, however, the industries in the area are very steady.
The two major employees are East Tennessee State University (which has nearly 14,000 students from 50+ countries and all 50 states) and the Medcenter (home to Ballard Health, Johnson City Medical Center, ETSU Health, James H. Quillen VA Medical Center, and many others). Johnson City happens to be the epicenter for the area’s healthcare. Bristol and Kingsport also have healthcare facilities, but the majority of the medical specialties are based in Johnson City.
From the 1950s to today, Johnson City has become an industrial center, a retail and entertainment hub, and a burgeoning healthcare and educational center for the Tri-Cities and surrounding mountain area. For those reasons and many others I’ll share with you in future blog posts, Johnson City truly is one of the best places to live in the U.S.
